Smart enough
to pretend to be something I'm not
for my own safety

Proud enough
to not bash who I am
for approval

I go to a religious, anti-gay school in a country extremely behind on gay rights. As a bisexual agnostic, I tell people I'm Christian and say nothing of my sexuality since it's assumed anyway. Last week, they assigned a presentation on sexual identity and the 'problems with sex', asking me to explain to the class why being gay is wrong. And just like they've asked me to agree with anyone who doesn't believe in god being horrible before, I said no.

So my friend asked me, "Why are you not okay with doing that if you're pretending to be a straight Christian anyway?" I told them, "I'm smart enough to pretend to be something I'm not for my own safety, but I have enough pride to not bash who I am for a grade."

I feel like a lot of people can relate to this, in situations where they're not able to express themselves, but still hold their dignity and stand their ground for what they believe in, so I've altered it a bit to apply for many situations and am posting it here, for all to see. (:

Feedback is appreciated, thank you and stay strong ~
